Saxifraga stolinifera RHS AGM

Saxifraga stolonifera – Strawberry Saxifrage

Saxifraga stolonifera is a charming, low-growing semi-evergreen perennial, prized for its rounded, velvety, deep green leaves beautifully patterned with silvery-white veins and reddish-purple undersides. In late spring and summer, airy sprays of delicate white, star-shaped flowers with two unusually long lower petals rise above the foliage, creating a wonderfully graceful display.

Growing approximately 10–15cm tall, or up to 30cm in flower, and spreading 30–50cm, it produces slender red runners bearing miniature plantlets that gradually form an attractive carpet. Grow in partial to full shade in fertile, humus-rich, well-drained soil, preferably in a sheltered position. Ideal for shaded containers, conservatories, houseplant displays and frost-free woodland-style planting, it is particularly attractive spilling over the edges of pots.
