Pulmonaria ‘Opal’ (‘Ocupol’) – Lungwort

A gorgeous new variety of Pulmonaria and probably my favourite, the flowers are certainly a favourite for bumble bees!

Pulmonaria ‘Opal’, also known as Lungwort ‘Opal’, is a compact, award-winning perennial that brings a welcome splash of colour to shady gardens. In early spring, clusters of pale blue flowers emerge from pink buds, standing above attractive, semi-evergreen leaves heavily marked and speckled with silver. Growing to around 25–30cm tall and wide, it is ideal for woodland gardens, shady borders, underplanting trees and shrubs, and containers. Grow ‘Opal’ in partial to full shade in fertile, humus-rich, consistently moist but well-drained soil; it is fully hardy and particularly useful for adding long-lasting foliage interest where many flowering plants struggle. Its early flowers also provide a valuable source of nectar for bees and other pollinators.
