Polypodium vulgare 'Bifido-Multifidum' 9cm

Polypodium vulgare ‘Bifido-Multifidum’ – Crested Common Polypody

Polypodium vulgare ‘Bifido-Multifidum’ is an attractive evergreen fern, distinguished by its unusual, deeply divided, dark green fronds. The leaflets have distinctive forked, crested tips, giving the foliage a decorative, finely textured appearance. Slowly spreading rhizomes gradually form an attractive, low-growing colony.

Growing approximately 20–35cm tall and 40–50cm wide, this exceptionally hardy fern thrives in partial to full shade. It prefers moist, humus-rich, well-drained soil but tolerates drier conditions once established. Suitable for neutral to alkaline soils, it requires little maintenance.

Ideal for woodland gardens, shady borders, rockeries, stone walls, ground cover and containers, ‘Bifido-Multifidum’ provides year-round foliage interest. Its unusual fronds make it particularly appealing to fern collectors and a beautiful companion to hostas and other shade-loving perennials.
