When you see it you may wonder if this is a fern! IT is and a very unusual native one. Look closely and you will see that it may look superficially like grass but has the sporocarps at the base and the thin fronds uncurl like other ferns. You'll love it!
It grows in damp sites in areas away from any competition, such as river banks or seasonal ponds. You can also teat it as a marginal aquatic, it grows in water up to 30cm deep. Plant it near the margin and it will spread whee happy. You can recreate this just by keeping the area clear of competing plants. It only grows a few centimetres high and spreads slowly to form a most unusual mat!
