Hosta 'Sum and Substance' RHS AGM 1 litre

Hosta ‘Sum and Substance’

Hosta ‘Sum and Substance’ is a magnificent, giant Hosta prized for its enormous, heart-shaped, glossy golden-green leaves. The impressive, thick, deeply veined foliage emerges bright chartreuse in spring, gradually developing rich golden-yellow tones with increased sunlight. Mature leaves can reach 50cm in length, forming a spectacular, broad mound of architectural greenery. Tall stems bearing pale lavender, bell-shaped flowers rise above the foliage in summer.

Growing approximately 75–100cm tall and 120–150cm wide, this clump-forming hosta thrives in partial shade and moist, fertile, well-drained soil. Some gentle morning sunshine enhances its golden colouring, while its thick, substantial leaves offer some resistance to slug and snail damage.

An outstanding choice for woodland gardens, spacious shady borders, large containers and architectural planting, ‘Sum and Substance’ creates a dramatic focal point.

RHS Award of Garden Merit (AGM).
