Hosta sieboldiana

Hosta sieboldiana (Siebold’s Plantain Lily)

Hosta sieboldiana is a magnificent, large-growing, shade-loving perennial, prized for its enormous, heart-shaped, blue-green leaves with prominent veins and gently rippled edges. Native to Japan, this giant blue-leaved Hosta forms an impressive mound of bold, textured foliage, bringing architectural interest to shady gardens. Spikes of white, bell-shaped flowers appear in summer, attracting bees and other pollinators.

Growing 50–100cm tall and spreading 100–150cm wide, this Hosta thrives in partial to full shade, preferring fertile, humus-rich, moist but well-drained soil.

Ideal for woodland gardens, shaded borders, waterside planting and large containers, Hosta sieboldiana makes a spectacular specimen plant. Its impressive blue-green foliage contrasts beautifully with ferns, Astilbes and other shade-loving perennials, making it an excellent choice for adding structure, texture and lush foliage to shady areas of the garden.
