Erythronium californicum ‘White Beauty’ – Fawn Lily

Erythronium californicum ‘White Beauty’, commonly known as Fawn Lily or Dog’s Tooth Violet, is a beautiful woodland bulb prized for its elegant, nodding creamy-white flowers with recurved petals and reddish-brown markings, held above attractive, softly mottled green foliage. Reaching around 25–30cm in height, it flowers in spring and is particularly effective when planted in naturalistic drifts beneath deciduous trees, in woodland gardens or at the front of shady borders. Plant the bulbs around 10cm deep in partial to full shade, in fertile, humus-rich, moist but well-drained soil, and leave established clumps undisturbed so they can gradually naturalise. A fully hardy, RHS Award of Garden Merit plant, ‘White Beauty’ is an excellent choice for bringing elegant early-season colour and natural woodland character to a shady garden.
