Dryopteris stewartii (Stewart’s Wood Fern)

An elegant, hardy semi-evergreen fern native to the Himalayas, admired for its graceful, finely divided fronds and attractive fresh yellow-green spring growth. The triangular to lance-shaped foliage gradually matures to a richer green, forming a lush, spreading clump that brings beautiful texture and structure to shaded planting schemes.

Growing approximately 60–100cm tall with a similar spread, Dryopteris stewartii thrives in partial to full shade in moist, humus-rich, well-drained, acidic to neutral soil. Hardy and easy to grow, it tolerates some dry shade once established.

An excellent choice for woodland gardens, shady borders and naturalistic planting, particularly alongside hostas, epimediums and other shade-loving perennials.

A distinctive and relatively uncommon ornamental fern for collectors and woodland gardeners.
