Dryopteris dickinsii ‘Crispa’ – Crisped Dickins Wood Fern
A compact, hardy, evergreen fern, hailing from India to Japan, with beautifully curled and ruffled green fronds, Dryopteris dickinsii ‘Crispa’ brings distinctive texture and lasting interest to shady gardens. I
ts gently arching foliage forms a neat clump, reaching approximately 35–40cm high and 60cm wide when mature.
An attractive choice for the front of woodland borders, smaller gardens and shaded containers, it combines particularly well with hostas, epimediums and other ferns.
Grow in partial shade or shade, in humus-rich, moist but well-drained soil, sheltered from strong winds and harsh afternoon sun.
Hardy and easy to maintain, it benefits from an annual mulch of leaf mould or garden compost. Remove damaged or tired fronds in early spring as fresh growth begins.
