Digitalis × mertonensis – Strawberry Foxglove

Digitalis × mertonensis, commonly known as the Strawberry Foxglove, is a beautiful semi-evergreen, short-lived perennial, prized for its tall spikes of large, velvety strawberry-pink flowers with subtle coppery and mauve tones. Flowering from May to July, the elegant, tubular blooms rise above attractive rosettes of deep green, slightly hairy leaves, providing colour and vertical interest while attracting bees and other pollinators.

Growing approximately 60–90cm tall and 30–45cm wide, this hardy, clump-forming foxglove thrives in partial shade or gentle sun, preferring fertile, humus-rich, moist but well-drained soil. An excellent choice for woodland edges, partially shaded borders, cottage gardens and naturalistic planting, it combines beautifully with ferns, hardy geraniums and other shade-loving perennials.
