Cyrtomium falcatum – Japanese Holly Fern – RHS AGM

Cyrtomium falcatum, commonly known as the Japanese Holly Fern, is an attractive evergreen fern with glossy, leathery, dark-green fronds and distinctive holly-like leaflets. Growing to around 50–70cm tall and wide, it forms a handsome, architectural clump and is ideal for shady borders, woodland gardens, sheltered courtyards and containers. Grow in partial to full shade in moist but well-drained, humus-rich soil, preferably in a sheltered position protected from cold, drying winds. Awarded the RHS Award of Garden Merit (AGM) for its reliable garden performance, this distinctive evergreen fern provides valuable foliage and structure throughout the year and is particularly useful for adding interest to darker areas of the garden.
