Cyathea cooperi - Australian Tree Fern RHS GM

Cyathea cooperi – Australian Tree Fern / Lacy Tree Fern

Cyathea cooperi (syn. Sphaeropteris cooperi), commonly known as the Australian Tree Fern or Lacy Tree Fern, is a magnificent, fast-growing evergreen tree fern, prized for its enormous, finely divided, bright green fronds. The graceful, arching foliage emerges from a crown atop a slender, scaly trunk, eventually forming a spectacular, umbrella-like canopy with a distinctly tropical appearance.

Growing approximately 2.5–4 metres tall and 2.5–4 metres wide, with fronds reaching several metres in length, this impressive fern thrives in partial shade, preferring moist, humus-rich, well-drained, acidic to neutral soil. A sheltered position with high humidity and protection from drying winds is ideal.

Faster-growing than many other tree ferns, it is particularly suitable for creating a lush, exotic atmosphere.

Evergreen. RHS Award of Garden Merit (AGM).
