Cardiocrinum giganteum – Giant Himalayan Lily is a spectacular architectural woodland perennial, producing a towering flower stem up to 2–2.5m tall topped with numerous large, fragrant, creamy-white trumpet flowers marked with purple or maroon inside the throat. Before flowering, it forms an impressive rosette of huge, glossy, heart-shaped leaves, making it an attractive foliage plant even before its dramatic summer display.

Grow in partial or dappled shade in deep, fertile, humus-rich soil that remains moist but well drained, with shelter from strong winds; it dislikes hot, dry conditions and waterlogged ground.

Hardy to RHS H5 (-15 to -10°C), Cardiocrinum giganteum is a superb choice for woodland gardens, shady borders and naturalistic planting. It is monocarpic, meaning the flowering bulb dies after flowering but produces offsets to continue the plant's legacy.
