Camellia japonica ‘Dr King’ – Japanese Camellia is a superb evergreen flowering shrub prized for its large, semi-double rose-red to reddish-pink flowers with prominent golden-yellow stamens, appearing from late winter into spring against glossy, dark green foliage. A strong-growing, upright camellia, it can reach approximately 2–3m tall and 1.5–2.5m wide when mature, making an impressive specimen for borders, woodland gardens and large containers. Grow Camellia japonica ‘Dr King’ in partial or dappled shade, preferably sheltered from cold, drying winds and early morning sun, in moist, fertile, acidic, humus-rich, well-drained soil. Hardy to around RHS H5 (-15 to -10°C), it is an excellent choice for adding evergreen structure and spectacular late-winter colour to a sheltered Irish or UK garden.
