Astrantia major 'Buckland' RHS AGM P11

Astrantia major ‘Buckland’

Astrantia major ‘Buckland’ is an elegant, long-flowering hardy perennial, with pincushion-like flowers in soft, dusky pink, surrounded by papery, silvery-white bracts tipped with green. The intricate, star-shaped flowerheads appear in abundance from early summer into autumn, rising on slender, branching stems above attractive, deeply lobed green foliage.

Growing approximately 70–90cm tall and 40–50cm wide, this clump-forming perennial thrives in partial shade or sun, provided the soil remains sufficiently moist. It prefers fertile, humus-rich, moisture-retentive soil.

An excellent choice for woodland edges, partially shaded borders, cottage gardens and naturalistic planting schemes, ‘Buckland’ combines beautifully with ferns, hostas, geraniums and ornamental grasses. Its long-lasting flowers are particularly attractive in fresh and dried flower arrangements.
