New Zealand Wind Grass/ Pheasant Grass
This is probably the best of the taller grasses for shade, especially shade on the dry side. Anemanthele lessoniana 'Sirocco' is a more compact variety. Not one for damp shade. Good for coastal areas as well. It grows about 60cm high and will self seed if happy. The foliage is green, red and orange with a soft red inflorescence, it colours up more in cool conditions.
A worthy grass to grow and a great companion to ferns with touches of oramge and red such as Dryopteris erythrosora and Dryopteris lepidopoda. It also goes well with contrasting foliage such as Dryopteris seiboldiana.
