Hosta ‘Permafrost’ – Variegated Plantain Lily

Hosta ‘Permafrost’ is a beautiful deciduous, shade-loving perennial, prized for its thick, heart-shaped blue-green leaves edged with exceptionally broad golden-yellow margins that gradually mature to creamy white. As the season progresses, the leaf centres deepen to dark green, creating a striking contrast with the pale margins. In summer, elegant spikes of pale lavender, tubular flowers rise above the foliage.

Growing approximately 35–40cm tall and 80–90cm wide, this hardy hosta thrives in partial to full shade, preferring fertile, humus-rich, moist but well-drained soil.

An excellent choice for woodland gardens, shady borders, containers and planting alongside ferns and other shade-loving perennials, ‘Permafrost’ provides outstanding foliage colour from spring until autumn. Its thick leaves also offer relatively good resistance to slug damage.
