Verbena bonariensis ‘Bonnie Blue’ – Dwarf Purple Verbena P9

Verbena bonariensis ‘Bonnie Blue’ – Dwarf Purple Verbena

Verbena bonariensis ‘Bonnie Blue’ is a compact, free-flowering variety of the popular Argentinian Vervain, prized for its abundant clusters of lavender-blue flowers from early summer into autumn. Unlike the tall-growing species, ‘Bonnie Blue’ forms a neat, bushy plant with slender, upright stems and attractive green foliage that develops reddish autumn tones. Its nectar-rich flowers are particularly appealing to bees and butterflies.

Height: 40–60cm

Spread: 30–50cm

Position: Full sun

Soil: Moderately fertile, well-drained

Flowering: June–October

Foliage: Deciduous

Hardiness: RHS H4 (−10°C to −5°C)

Ideal for sunny borders, gravel gardens, patio containers and wildlife-friendly planting, ‘Bonnie Blue’ provides months of colour without the height of traditional Verbena bonariensis. Its compact habit makes it particularly useful for smaller gardens and the front of borders. Protect from excessive winter wet and severe frost.
