Trillium luteum RHS AGM P9

Trillium luteum – Yellow Wood Trillium

Trillium luteum is a beautiful deciduous woodland perennial, prized for its striking whorl of three broad, green leaves heavily marbled with silvery-green markings. In April and May, distinctive, upright lemon-yellow to yellow-green flowers emerge directly above the foliage, releasing a delicate, sweet lemon fragrance.

Growing approximately 30–45cm tall and 30–40cm wide, this slow-growing, rhizomatous perennial gradually forms attractive colonies when left undisturbed. Grow in partial to full shade in deep, fertile, humus-rich, moist but well-drained soil, preferably acidic to neutral. An excellent choice for woodland gardens, shady borders and naturalising beneath deciduous trees and shrubs, Trillium luteum combines beautifully with ferns, hostas and other spring-flowering woodland plants.
