Polygonatum humile P9
€6.00
Polygonatum humile is the pocket-sized member of the Solomon’s seal clan, usually topping out at a demure 20–30 cm. It forms tidy clumps of upright stems lined with glossy, bright-green leaves, each stem discreetly sporting one or two creamy, bell-shaped flowers that dangle like shy earrings in late spring.
It flourishes in partial to full shade, preferring cool, moist, humus-rich soil—think woodland nook rather than sun-baked patio. Once settled, it behaves admirably, spreading gently but never with the overenthusiasm of a plant that’s had too much compost.
Interesting fact: Despite its polite demeanour, Polygonatum humile is surprisingly tough—its rhizomes have been used in traditional remedies across Asia for centuries, proving that even the smallest plants can have rather big résumés.
