A deservedly popular plant with red shoots in spring opening up to dazzling mottled umbrella like leaves about 40cm high. Dark ruby red flowers are underneath the foliage followed by red fruits. These need well drained but moisture retentive soils in shade or partial shade. Think your typical woodland soil and you won't go too wrong. A mulch of leaf mould in the autumn will be most welcome.
