Ophiopogon planiscapus Nigrescens 1.3 litre

Ophiopogon planiscapus ‘Nigrescens’ – Black Mondo Grass

Ophiopogon planiscapus ‘Nigrescens’ is a striking evergreen, grass-like perennial, prized for its slender, arching, almost black, deep purple foliage, which provides dramatic contrast throughout the year. In summer, short spikes of delicate pale lilac-purple, bell-shaped flowers appear amongst the leaves, followed by glossy, dark purple-black berries.

Growing approximately 15–20cm tall and 20–30cm wide, this slow-spreading, clump-forming perennial thrives in full sun or partial shade, preferring fertile, humus-rich, moist but well-drained soil.

An excellent choice for woodland gardens, shady borders, ground cover, containers and edging pathways, it contrasts beautifully with golden grasses, silver-leaved plants and bright green ferns.
