Leucojum aestivum ‘Gravetye Giant’ is a bold and elegant spring bulb, often mistaken for an overachieving snowdrop. Growing 45–60 cm tall, it produces tall stems carrying large, nodding white bell-shaped flowers, each petal tipped with a neat green dot. The flowers rise above strap-like, fresh green foliage, creating a graceful yet substantial presence in the garden.
It thrives in full sun to partial shade, preferring moist to damp, humus-rich soil, and is especially happy in meadows, woodland edges, or near water. Hardy and long-lived, it naturalises well and becomes more impressive each year.
Interesting fact: ‘Gravetye Giant’ was selected at Gravetye Manor by the legendary gardener William Robinson, and its extra-large size is exactly why it earned its rather confident name.
