Epipactis gigantea- Stream Orchid/Giant Helleborine P9

Epipactis gigantea – a striking, moisture-loving hardy orchid that brings an exotic touch to the garden without demanding tropical treatment. Upright stems reach 60–90 cm tall, forming clumps that slowly expand over time. In summer, it produces elegant spikes of coppery red to greenish-orange flowers, each delicately marked and long-lasting.

Best grown in moist to wet, humus-rich soil in partial shade, it’s particularly well suited to pond margins, bog gardens, damp borders, or naturalistic plantings. It will tolerate more sun if the soil remains reliably moist.

The nectar-rich flowers attract bees and other pollinators, while the bold foliage provides strong vertical interest even before flowering. A reliable choice for adding colour and structure to damp, shady areas where many plants hesitate.
