Epimedium × perralchicum ‘Fröhnleiten’ – Yellow Barrenwort

Epimedium ‘Fröhnleiten’ is a hardy, evergreen woodland perennial with airy sprays of bright yellow spring flowers, held above leathery, heart-shaped leaves. Young foliage emerges with attractive bronze markings, matures to green in summer and develops bronze tints again in autumn.

Growing approximately 30–40 cm tall and 60 cm wide, it gradually spreads to form dense ground cover beneath trees and shrubs.

Plant in partial or dappled shade in fertile, humus-rich, moist but well-drained soil, sheltered from cold, drying winds. Water regularly while establishing and mulch with leaf mould or garden compost. Remove damaged leaves as needed.

A useful choice for shaded borders, ‘Fröhnleiten’ combines cheerful spring flowers with lasting foliage interest and looks beautiful alongside ferns, hellebores and woodland bulbs.
