Dryopteris x remota - Remote Wood Fern 2 litre

Dryopteris × remota – Remote Wood Fern

Dryopteris × remota, commonly known as Remote Wood Fern or Scaly Buckler Fern, is an attractive, hardy, semi-evergreen fern prized for its elegant, finely divided foliage and distinctive golden-brown, scaly stems.

A naturally occurring hybrid between Dryopteris affinis and Dryopteris expansa, it combines the strength of the former with the delicate, lace-like foliage of the latter.

Fresh green fronds emerge early in spring, forming a graceful, upright to arching clump approximately 60–90 cm high and 50–80 cm wide.

Thriving in partial to full shade, this resilient woodland fern prefers humus-rich, well-drained, acidic to neutral soil, tolerating some dry shade once established. Ideal for woodland gardens, shaded borders, underplanting trees and naturalistic planting, its attractive foliage contrasts beautifully with hostas, hellebores and other shade-loving perennials.

An excellent, low-maintenance fern for Irish gardens.
