Dryopteris sieboldii- Asian Wood Fern

Dryopteris sieboldii, commonly known as Siebold’s Wood Fern or Asian Wood Fern, is an unusual evergreen fern, instantly recognisable by its broad, leathery, blue-green fronds. Unlike the finely divided foliage of most ferns, its striking fronds consist of just a few large, elongated, finger-like leaflets, giving the plant a bold, almost tropical appearance. Native to East Asia, this distinctive fern is particularly valued for its architectural foliage and unusual texture.

Growing approximately 45–60cm tall and wide, this slow-growing, clump-forming fern thrives in partial to full shade, preferring fertile, humus-rich, moist but well-drained soil.

An excellent choice for woodland gardens, shaded borders, sheltered courtyards and containers, Dryopteris sieboldii provides a striking contrast to the delicate foliage of other hardy ferns.
