Dryopteris affinis ‘Cristata Angustata’ is a striking, evergreen fern with a refined, architectural form. It typically grows 60–90 cm tall, forming a dense clump of upright, deeply divided fronds that are dark green and glossy, each tipped with delicate, crested ends that add texture and visual interest. Its narrow, crested fronds give it a slightly aristocratic air, standing out beautifully in shade or woodland borders.

It thrives in partial to full shade, in moist, humus-rich, well-drained soil, and appreciates a sheltered spot from strong winds. Once established, it is low-maintenance and evergreen, providing year-round structure and elegance.

Interesting fact: The crested frond tips of ‘Cristata Angustata’ are a natural mutation, giving this fern a sculptural, almost hand-crafted appearance — as if nature itself took a moment to practice a bit of fancy calligraphy.

Awarded the Royal Horticultural Society's Award of Garden Merit. (RHS AGM).
