Dicksonia antarctica RHS AGM
€29.00
Dicksonia antarctica, the soft tree fern or Tasmanian tree fern, is a majestic, slow-growing evergreen that brings an ancient, rainforest feel to gardens. It typically grows 2–5 m tall (trunks can eventually reach 15 m in the wild), with large, arching fronds up to 3 m long that unfurl from the top of a stout, fibrous trunk, creating a lush, umbrella-like canopy.
It thrives in partial to full shade, in moist, humus-rich, well-drained soil, and appreciates high humidity. While surprisingly hardy once established, it benefits from winter protection in colder climates and consistent moisture to keep its fronds healthy and glossy.
Interesting fact: Tree ferns are an ancient group, dating back over 100 million years, making it a living relic from the age of the dinosaurs — a plant that has truly stood the test of time.
Awarded the Royal Horticultural Society's Award for Garden Merit.
