Davallia fejeensis – Rabbit's Foot Fern
Davallia fejeensis, commonly known as the Rabbit's Foot Fern or Hare's Foot Fern, is an unusual and attractive evergreen fern, prized for its finely divided, feathery green fronds and distinctive creeping rhizomes. Covered in soft, silvery-brown hairs, these gradually spread over the edges of the pot, resembling a rabbit's feet.
Growing approximately 30–60cm tall and 40–60cm wide when cultivated indoors, this tropical fern thrives in bright, indirect light or partial shade, preferring a moist but freely draining, slightly acidic growing medium. It appreciates warmth and humidity, although it tolerates occasional dryness better than many tropical ferns. Avoid direct sunshine, waterlogging and burying its furry rhizomes beneath the compost.
An excellent choice for hanging baskets, indoor containers, conservatories and shaded houseplant displays.
Evergreen. RHS H1C (5–10°C). Best grown indoors in Ireland.
