A beautiful elegant fern, this needs a moist, lime free soil to thrive. Very hardy and a must for the natural garden. Fabulous in containers where the fertile fronds will draw many favourable comments from visitors.

Etymology.
Blechnum is derived from the word blechnon, an ancient Greek word for fern).
Spicant is derived from the Latin spikatus, meaning firnished with spines, probably alluding to the fertile fronds being stiffer and upright than the sterile fronds.
