Begonia grandis subsp. evansiana – Hardy Begonia

A beautiful late-summer flowering perennial, Begonia grandis subsp. evansiana produces delicate clusters of soft pink flowers above attractive, heart-shaped green leaves, often with a striking reddish-purple underside. Growing to around 45–60cm tall and 30–45cm wide, it thrives in partial to full shade in moist, fertile, humus-rich, well-drained soil. This hardy begonia is an excellent choice for woodland gardens, shady borders and naturalistic planting, bringing colour well into late summer when many shade plants are beginning to fade. In favourable conditions it can self-seed and produce small bulbils along the leaf axils, helping establish charming colonies over time.
