Merlot Lady Fern

A fabulous new and highly attractive fern with bottle green sterile fronds and ornate fertile fronds flushed with red wine and purple colours on dark purple stipes.

It's a relative of the Painted Ferns but mostly evergreen. It enjoys much the same conditions, a friable fertile soil in partial shade. New fronds typically start emerging from late April.

Found in valleys, stream banks and shaded mountain slopes in Japan, Korea and China.
