Adiantum capillus-veneris – Maidenhair Fern
Adiantum capillus-veneris, commonly known as the Maidenhair Fern or Southern Maidenhair Fern, is a graceful fern prized for its finely divided, soft green foliage. Small, fan-shaped leaflets are carried on slender, glossy black stems, creating an airy, lacy appearance. An unusual native Irish fern, it occurs naturally in sheltered, damp limestone crevices, particularly in the Burren and along Ireland's western coast.
Growing approximately 15–40cm tall, this fern thrives in partial to full shade, preferring consistently moist but well-drained, humus-rich soil.
Semi-evergreen in mild conditions; deciduous after frost. RHS H3 (−5°C to 1°C).
